Haley hates dogs, Emily loves them

WEDNESDAY we got up early because we had Bible study.  Haley woke up on her own but I had to wake Emily up to leave.  She had only taken medicine once but she was already sounding a lot better.  It’s amazing how fast that stuff works.  I left Haley in a pull-up since she went in her panties at MOPS the day before but it was dry when I picked her up.

After Bible study a bunch of girls from MOPS that also do BSF were going to McCalister’s Deli for lunch.  I normally would have not gone but Dave was still gone, I had a free cookie from there, and they said they sit in an outside room so the kids can run around.  Well we were one of the last people to arrive (we had to run home to get the free cookie coupon J) and when we got there they were not sitting in the adjoining room that they had mentioned.  I’m still not sure why they weren’t, maybe it was already full.  Anyways, instead the moms sat at a long table and all of the kids sat across the aisle from us at a booth table.  It was Haley’s first time sitting at a kid’s table and she actually did pretty well.  Some of the kids were climbing around under the table but she sat there and just watched them for most of the time.

Emily was asleep when we got there and she stayed sleeping through most of lunch.  However, when she woke up, it was pretty much time to go.  She was hungry and our table was pretty cramped so I didn’t really see breastfeeding as a viable option.  We packed up and headed to the van where I breastfed Emily and then we headed home.  Both girls went straight down for a nap and I worked on my Bible study.
While they were sleeping I got a text from a lady from church letting me know that another girl from church’s water had just broken and she was on the way to the hospital to have her baby!  Her baby was breach so they had to do a c-section but Suleidy (the mom) knew that it was breach so she was prepared for that.  Anyways, more on that later.  Meg, the lady texting, asked me to pick up her oldest daughter on the way to church because she was going to go to the hospital.

We ended up leaving a little early for church so that we could help Bonnie Mason set up.  Haley wore panties to church and did really well, she didn’t have any accidents and she always told me when she had to go.  Emily usually sleeps during the meeting part of Wednesday church but tonight she was wide awake.  I asked the baby-sitter college students if they would be okay if Emily was in there and they said they were.  Afterwards they said Emily was super easy.  She sat in her infant seat and held stuff most of the time.
Suliedy delivered her baby just before 6pm!  She had a little boy, his name is Santiago and he was 6lbs. 9oz.  Suleidy and her husband are from Puerto Rico so that is why it is a Spanish name, they are going to call him Thiago for short.  One of the needs they had was someone to care for their little dog Pretzel.  Haley has been acting scared of dogs lately so I volunteered in the hopes that having Pretzel would help Haley get used to dogs.  He is probably the best behaved dog I have ever seen, especially for being so young.  He has been trained to never go on carpet so I knew it would be a pretty easy.

The girls and I went to the Cortez’s house right after church to pick up Pretzel.  I had to jump the fence to get into their backyard to get their spare key but other than that it wasn’t too bad.  Pretzel did not want to come to me but he had a little kennel and I coaxed him in there.  I basically kidnapped him.  Haley was pretty excited about the whole puppy dog adventure until we got home.  After that she was pretty much terrified of him.  I put Emily on the floor with him so that Haley could see that she wasn’t scared but that didn’t seem to help.  Emily loves Pretzel, she thinks he’s hilarious.  I put Emily to bed and pretty much had to hold Haley the res t of the evening until David got home.  I needed to put her to bed but David really wanted to see her so I let her stay up.  Her words for pretzel were crazy, yucky, and gross, haha.  She went right to sleep once David got home and put her down.

THURSDAY David had a morning flight so he left super early.  The girls and I got up a little later and headed out to Bible study.  Haley was pretty excited to play with Lucy and Evelyn and she wore panties the whole time without any accidents.  She had a big boo at the Mason’s house, haha.  Emily did well in the beginning but soon she began acting tired and she didn’t seem to want to fall asleep in my arms.  I took her to the guest bedroom and laid her on the bed and left and she went to sleep.  That baby loves to sleep.
After Bible study the Caldwells came to our house for lunch.  Haley was happy to see them but it ended up being kind of a bad idea because both of those girls are also terrified of dogs.  After lunch the girls went down for naps.  We ended up having to wake Haley up because she was sleeping so long, Emily didn’t even sleep two hours.  I guess she doesn’t always love sleep.  We got Haley up and then left for a Birthday party for Kinsley Smith.  On the way we stopped by Wal-mart to pick out a gift.  I had been planning on doing that earlier but Haley just kept sleeping the day away!

Kinsley’s party was doubling as a Duck Dynasty party as well.  Duck Dynasty is a show about some duck hunting people from Monroe Louisiana which is pretty close by.  Meagan had gumbo as the main course, a Louisiana specialty.  Haley had so much fun playing with all of the kids.  Leeland has an older cousin who is probably close to six or seven and I think Haley followed her around most of the night.  Emily just kind of hung out and then fell asleep in my arms towards the end.  The best part of the night was when they put Kinsley in a high chair and gave her a baby cake to eat.  She stuck her finger in a couple of times but other than that did not really eat it.  It was hilarious.  Everyone had their cameras and video cameras all pointed on her for the big mess she was supposed to be making so maybe she was a bit distracted.  It was so funny.  After the party we came home and I read Haley some books and then she went to bed.

Haleyism:
Haley saw some black ladies and their babies today at Wal-mart and David told her to say hi to the babies.  She yelled out ‘Hi baby Daniel!’ over and over, haha.

Emilyism:
Emily likes to tease us by rolling over most of the way, literally teetering on the edge of making it, and then quickly rolling back the other way.  David thinks she does it on purpose to bug us, I’m not sure that she’s quite that smart.

Emily playing on her mat

That's about as far up as her feet get, haha

This was the girl's reaction to Pretzel.  Haley is not usually that scared, I think Evelyn and Lucy made her more scared.  I know this is kind of sad but I think it is hilarious!

Going to the doctor...again!

Last night Emily woke up two times so I thought she was maybe starting to feel better.  She was still sleeping when it was time to leave for MOPS and David didn't have to leave for work until later so I decided to leave her home with him.  I woke Haley up and she went with me.  I think those girls only sleep in on mornings when I need them to wake up!  I put panties on Haley because, with the exception of yesterday, she has been doing pretty well on the potty away from home.  The MOPS workers are pretty good about taking her and she has been doing well at the gym and Bible study.  Well, that was a mistake.  When I picked Haley up she had different pants on, never a good sign.  I was pretty embarrassed about the whole thing but I felt a lot better when I found out that three other kids had had accidents too!  I guess it was in the water or something...or the workers...

We came straight home from MOPS because David had texted to tell me that Emily needed to be fed.  When we walked in Emily was not crying but David said he could tell she was hungry.  Haha, either that or he was ready to not be holding her anymore!  He said she slept in until 9:30 and then he held her the rest of the morning until I got home at 11:45.  I fed Emily and then she watched Haley eat lunch and play and then they both went down for naps.  Emily hardly slept an hour before she was up again.  I fed her and let her play but she got fussy again pretty fast so I put her back to sleep in her swing.  David left around 2:30 for an overnight in Tennessee.  He gets to see Uncle Caleb tomorrow!

Haley woke up from her nap around 3:30 and we woke Emily up from her second nap around four because we had to head out to the doctor's.  David made an appointment for Emily this morning because she had seemed so lethargic.  I think as soon as she heard we were going to the doctor's she started getting better.  She didn't feel warm anymore and she was smiling in the waiting room!  I told Dr. Bagnell that she seemed to be on the mend but Dr. Bagnell said her fever would probably go up again tonight and she prescribed the same medicine for Emily that she had for Haley.  She said that maybe Emily held off the infection part of the virus longer because she is breastfed.  I didn't want Emily to have to be on an antibiotic but I am looking forward to her recovery from the cough she has and her wheezey breathing.  She sounds like she is dying.

Haley definitely noticed that we were not at the doctor's office for her.  I had to take her to the potty two times, once when Dr. Bagnell was examining Emily, I was glad Dr. Bagnell was there, haha.  Dr. Bagnell had the nurse check Emily's oxygen levels (that's how bad her breathing sounds guys) and so Emily had to wear a little sensor thing on her toe.  Haley climbed up onto the table and watched for a while and then said, "Haley's turn?"  I guess it looked like a lot of fun because Emily was flailing her arms and smiling.

We went straight to the pharmacy from the doctor's.  There is a little pharmacy inside the same building, it is super convenient.  We picked up Emily's medicine and then drove right to the Caldwell's house for dinner.  Amanda had invited us over because Dave is gone overnight.  I had baked some cookies during naps so I brought them along as our contribution.  Haley was so excited to see Evelyn and Lucy, they played so nicely all night.  Amanda had made quite the spread but as soon as Haley sat down she asked for cheese.  I whispered to her that she could have cheese when we got home and she needed to eat nicely.  She must have gotten the hint because she didn't ask for it again.  I think she must have been super hungry because she ate a bunch of strawberries and even took a bit out of a raw pepper!  One of the sides was roasted kale, a vegetable I never make.  Haley actually ate some of it!  I was super impressed with her eating, I tried not be too excited but Haley hates trying new things usually.

Amanda gave Lucy and Evelyn baths after dinner so she threw Haley in there too.  I had brought Haley and Emily's pajamas along so we put those on before we left.  Haley used their potty three times and didn't have any accidents.  On our drive home Haley told me she had to use the bathroom.  We still had a couple miles to go so I stepped on the gas and told her to hold it.  As soon as we parked I grabbed her and Emily and ran inside.  Fortunately the little potty was right at the door so I quick threw her on there.  She held it the whole time and she really must have had to go because she went a lot, way more than usual.

After the potty I fed her the cheese I had promised and then she went to bed.  Emily had fallen asleep on the drive home so I waited for her to wake up and then I gave her medicine and put her to bed.

Haleyism:
There was a basket of candy bars at the pharmacy for sale.  Haley asked for some candy but I told her it was too close to dinner.  She held up her pointer finger and said, "only one?"  She is already trying to bargain with me!

Emilyism:
Emily was weighed at the doctor's office today.  She weighed 15 lbs. 8oz. I think.

Emily is a cuddle bug

Last night Emily had a pretty bad night.  I brought her back to bed with me after the third time she woke up, she was waking up every one to two hours.  She seemed to sleep okay the rest of the night but I didn't sleep quite as good.  I can never sleep well when the babies are with us unless they are way on the other side of the bed.  Emily slept in but Haley did not, she was up at 8am!  David got up and took a shower and washed Haley and then I took a shower.  Amanda and Lucy arrived just as I was getting dressed.  They brought me a bagel from Panera bread, it was so good!

David did not have to work today so it made it a lot easier for me to clean and keep an eye on the girls.  He worked on taxes and ran some errands but the majority of his day was spent cuddling with Emily.  We think that little Emy Lu (we have been calling her that lately...) may be feeling under the weather.  I e-mailed the doctor and we have been e-mailing back and forth for the day.  If Emily has another bad night then we are going to go in tomorrow.  Anyways, the reason why we think she may be sick is because she is a little warm (highest temperature this afternoon was only 99.9 though) and she was SO cuddly.  David could not get enough of her because she is not usually like that.

Haley decided to throw a monkey wrench into the day when she decided that she would forget that she was potty trained.  She had two outright accidents and one accident that was, well, more of an accident.  Anytime she peed/booed in her pants she would just take them off and leave them.  One time she was sitting on her potty trying to finish, her booey pants were a couple feet away.  Her legitimate accident was before naptime when I put Haley and Lucy on the potty.  I put Lucy on first because she got to the bathroom first and while I was encouraging Lucy to go, Haley went.  Lucy does take a couple minutes to go and I was using the same verbage I use to encourage Haley so I can see how she got confused.

Amanda came and picked up Lucy after naps and Haley watched a Dora movie she got for her Birthday while I started dinner.  Emily seemed to have perked up at that point and was starting to seem to be her old self so we decided to go to the gym.  She fell asleep on the way over so I figured she wouldn't be too much trouble anyways.  Well, that move right there got me the worst mom of the year award (I'm sure I will receive some kind of award for this).  David and I were about fifteen minutes into our class when we heard our names over the loudspeaker.  I went to the childcare place where Emily was laying placidly in a worker's arms.  They said she had felt warm so they took her temperature and it was 100.8!  Oops.  I felt pretty dumb because at that point Emily was obviously sick.  She was so pathetic looking and definitely felt warm.  I apologized over and over and then took Emily.  I let Haley stay in for the rest of the hour because she really loves it and I figured we might as well.  Poor little Emy.

We went home and I held Emily while David grilled up dinner and then we put her in the swing while we ate. She fell asleep in there and has been sleeping ever since.  I think we'll definitely go to the doctor tomorrow.  David had his men's group from church over and they sat around a campfire outside.  That was nice because then Haley and I had free reign of the house.  We vacuumed and cleaned up the den and then folded laundry.  Before bed I asked Haley what she wanted for a snack and she said strawberries.  She then ate at least six.  She ate 90% of a quart of strawberries in two days!  After her snack I put her to bed.  Emily is still in the swing, I don't have the heart to wake her up and put her in jammies, poor baby.

Haleyism:
Lucy calls me Ms. Katelyn.  On Mondays Haley also calls me Ms. Katelyn.  Haley insists that we call Emily 'Emy.'  A lot of times when I call her Emily, Haley will correct me and say 'Mommy, Emy.'

Emilyism:
Emily is a very accommodating sick baby.  She is super cuddly and sleeps a lot.

I don't think that thing will last too long!

Sunday

Saturday night Haley slept through again and Emily was up two times.  She woke up at 4 after a seven hour stretch and then again at 7:30, thirty minutes before my alarm was going to go off.  I had laid the girls' clothes out the night before to see if that would help us get out the door sooner.  I think it may have cut out a couple minutes from our routine.  We ended up having to wake Emily up to get her dressed.  She was still pretty zonked out, I felt bad.  Emily's late sleeping was not super convenient for the church service.  Normally I put her to sleep for a morning nap during the sermon but this morning she was wide awake.  I gave her random things to hold and suck on and then put her to sleep towards the end.  The service ended then so she only slept about five minutes.  She ended up falling asleep again on the way home.  Haley used the potty two times while we were at church.  One of the times was with David right before her Sunday School class and the other time was with the Sunday School teacher.  When I went to pick her up from her class, Meg (the teacher) said, "she went potty, and she is expecting some candy for it."  Haha, I guess she was asking them for it a lot.  Any tips on how to wean your kid off of candy once they are mostly potty trained?

After church we came home and had lunch and then we put the kids down for naps.  Emily ate a BUNCH of bananas for lunch.  David had to get more out of the freezer because she finished her normal serving.  She ended up eating twice what she usually eats.  She and Haley both slept a little over two hours.  We had invited an engaged couple from church to come for dinner and they arrived around 4.  They came before dinner so we could play games because they had something at 7.  It was a super nice day so we set up outside on the picnic table and got out the outside toys for Haley.  It ended up being a little too windy so we moved inside after the cards blew away a couple of times.  We played the game called 'bang' which is an Italian game that Caleb taught us at Christmas.  David had not gotten to play at Christmas but he liked it a lot.

Richard, the guy, won both games we played.  I had made a soup and kept it on the stove while we played so we could eat it whenever we were ready.  After the games I put some cornbread in the oven and then we set the table and ate.  It was really fun having Richard and Jenna over because they went to school near Covenant College; they went to Lee College, it's affiliated with Church of Christ, they had some stories to tell!  They filled us in on their wedding plans too, their big day is July 20th.  We talked for a while after dinner and then they headed out.

Emily was kind of fussy after they left so we tried feeding her more but she was still cranky after that so we put her to bed and she went right to sleep.  We let Haley stay up a little longer because she was in a super good mood and playing nicely.  Her favorite book right now is Curious George.  He is getting into trouble in most of the stories so while we read them she is usually saying, 'don't do that George!' or 'obey George' or 'no no George!'  It gets my funny bone.  David is putting Haley to sleep right now, hopefully she goes down right away.

Haleyism:
Sometimes Haley tries to flush the toilet with her mouth, it is super weird.

Emilyism:
Emily was super cuddly tonight and kind of warm, I wonder if she is feeling sick.  I gave her some Tylenol just in case!

She requested the blanket too

Daddy taking Haley's blood pressure.  The Brusts got her a doctor's kit for her Birthday and she LOVES it!  I took a video of her opening the gift, I will try and upload it tomorrow!

Hopefully she will behave herself better at the doctor now that she has some practice playing!

Emily rolls over belly to back!

FRIDAY David had to work but he didn't have to leave until 10 so he slept in with us.  Haley slept through the night without any coughing or anything that woke her up so David was happy.  Emily was up every three to four hours so that wasn't a great night for either of us.  David was around long enough to help with the girls while I took a shower.  I got the girls dressed and ready to go for the day and then we hung out and waited for Haley to go boo boo.  She usually goes in the morning so if she doesn't go right away then it kind of makes me nervous.  She never ended up going.  A friend had texted me Thursday night to invite us to Chick-fil-A for lunch at 11:30 so we headed out around then.  As soon as we got there Haley took off for the play area and stayed there for most of the time.  I can't believe how good she's gotten in the playground, it's like it happened overnight!  She was climbing up the stairs and playing in the car thing and going down the slide just like all of the other big kids!  I guess she realized that she had a Birthday and that's what 2 year olds do.  She used to just hang out in the toddler area and crawl underneath the steps.  You know the place where it's impossible to clean and all of the dust bunnies gather.

Anyways, it was a fairly uneventful lunch for me.  Emily had fallen asleep on the way over so I ate my meal like a free woman!  David got me a Chick-fil-A gift card for my Birthday so I can eat there whenever I want without feeling bad or cutting into our family date budget or anything.  I think that was a great idea, although I don't think the gift card will last super long!  Haley asked to use the potty several times while we were there but she never actually went.  I guess she was just practicing.  Leeland Smith was there too so they followed eachother around a lot in the play area and anytime he came out to grab a bite of food, Haley would follow.  She is definitely a grazer, she won't have to worry about having eaten too fast anytime soon.

After Chick-fil-A we went to the mall because Zales had called to tell me that my wedding bands were in.  As you may recall, David got me a second wedding band for my Birthday.  Anyhow, we had gotten it resized and both bands re-dipped (they are white gold).  Haley was not very good at the mall.  I told her that if she behaved herself than I would let her play on the toys.  I think she thought that meant that we were going to play with the toys as soon as we got there.  She was pretty made when we went to Zales instead.  It worked out though because I think it made the people work a little faster.  I couldn't believe how many people were at Zales at 1:15 on a Friday afternoon!  After Zales I took her to the toys and let her play for a couple minutes.

Playing on the toys

When we got home I put both of the girls down for naps.  They slept a little over two hours and as soon as they woke up I bundled them all up again and headed two houses down for a visit to Francis.  Haley now knows exactly who Nana is, she also knows that Nana gives her candy.  It was a little embarrassing when we arrived and one of the first things Haley said was 'candy?'  It's a good thing that Nana's hearing is not too great.  Haley had several practice runs on the potty while we were there but she never went.  I had put a pull-up on her because we were still waiting for that big boo and the last place I wanted it to happen was there.  Emily still has a huge soft spot for Francis.  Francis held her almost the entire time and when she wasn't holding her she had her laying on the floor and was playing with her.  They were playing a little game where Francis would tickle her and Emily would laugh, it was pretty sweet.  After about forty-five minutes Haley was getting antsy so we headed out.

David was on his way home when we got back so I fed the girls a big snack and then David got in and changed his clothes and we all headed to the gym.  We were a little late so we didn't stay the full hour but it was nice to have a little break from the girls.  We ended up just walking around the track instead of doing a full work-out.  When we picked up the girls Haley didn't even really want to leave, we had to convince her to come with us!  When we got back we played with the girls for a little bit and then got them in their pjs and put them to bed.  Then I heated up some shredded pork we had and David went to Sonic and got us some milkshakes and we had a nice dinner together.

SATURDAY David met with his accountability group early  at 6am and I had brought Emily to our bed so as soon as he was gone I moved her to his side.  She has been coughing a lot and I think it was waking her up last night because she was up more than usual.  Anyways, we slept in until around 8:30.  David had gotten home and fallen asleep on the cough and had brought us donuts for breakfast!  Haley and I were pretty excited.  I put Emily in the bumbo and put some Kix cereal on her tray.  I'm pretty sure she didn't get any in her mouth but she had a fun time playing with them I think.

After breakfast we gave the girls baths and then got them dressed.  Then we loaded up and headed to a jeweler nearby.  The diamond has been loose in my engagement ring and we wanted to see what he could do about it.  It was going to be super expensive at Zales to fix it and Sarah Creech had told us this guy does a lot of the repair work for jewelry stores in town.  He told us the diamond was loose because of the way the wedding band sits along the setting (note to engaged people, maybe you should buy your band and engagement ring together, or at least make sure they aren't sitting weird so your diamond doesn't get loose).  He convinced me to weld the whole setting together so it doesn't happen again.  I decided that was a good idea since David had just happened to notice it was loose, every so often he checks my ring, now I'm glad he does!  This guy told us he would fix my diamond, weld them all together, and redip the entire set - all for less than half of what Zales was going to charge to just fix the diamond!  We told him thanks and then headed out.

Our next stop was the gym.  Emily was sleeping so it was a pretty easy gig for the workers I think.  It was a nice day so David and I ran together outside.  Then I came in and did some weights and took a shower.  They just got a bunch of new hairdryers in the locker rooms so I had to try that out too.  It is so nice to take a shower and do my hair and makeup without any company.  David was saying he thinks it strange that I like to take showers there instead of my own house.  Then I explained to him that I could take one without any crying or without anyone asking to use the bathroom or anything like that.  He looked pretty thoughtful and agreed, I bet he will be taking them there in the future!

After the gym we came home and fed the girls lunch and then put them to bed.  Emily had been asleep not too long before so I played with her for a while and then put her to bed.  Our playtime proved fruitful because she rolled over from her tummy to her back, a first for her!  It must have tired her out because soon after she got cranky and I put her to sleep in the swing.  Then I went outside to work on the yard with David.  He had mowed the back and was wanted to clip some prickers we have in the backyard so I took the mower and worked on the front.  I really like mowing so even after he was finished I told him I would keep going and he could go inside and wait for the girls to wake up.

It didn't take me too long to finish although our neighbor Gwyn came over to talk and that took up some time.  Apparently Ray has been sleeping a lot, not a very good sign.  When I finished the yard I came inside where David had both girls planted on the couch watching the new Bible DVD and he was replacing the screen on this laptop.  The screen got cracked when we were traveling with it over Christmas and he found one online to replace it.  Replacing a computer screen is like doing surgery, he had all kinds of little tools out and had to take a bunch of stuff apart.  I fed Emily and then got started on dinner.

After dinner David and I decided to take the girls out for a family outing.  First we went to the pet store, our new favorite hang out obviously.  Haley walked around like she owns the place, she definitely knows her way around.  Emily had fallen asleep on the way so she missed most of our time there but she woke up for our next stop: Baskin Robbins.  We all got ice cream cones except Emily but we probably should have gotten her one of her own.  Haley insisted she wanted Mint chocolate chip so I asked the lady to give her a sample and she was not a fan, we got her cookies 'n cream instead.  Emily kept reaching for my cone so finally I put her mouth to it and she went to town.  I had gotten chocolate peanut butter so I was a little nervous that she might be allergic to peanuts.  David said the worst part would be that we wouldn't be able to tell since her face is so puffed up anyways.  He is mean!  Haley was such a mess with her ice cream cone.  Next time we are going to bring them home and just strip her down naked to eat it.  After the ice cream we came home we read some books and then put the girls to bed.

Haleyism:
Today Haley sauntered into the kitchen with only a shirt on.  I asked her where her pants were and she said something about yucky boo boo.  I asked her to show me and she took me to her pants and panties.  They were next to the couch in a little heap with a pile of boo pellets in the panties.  Thanks Haley.

Haley is crying because "watch Haley" which means that she wants to watch herself on David's phone instead of letting him take a video of her (to watch later of course).

Daddy Daughter Date Night

Haley was obviously sick last night.  I had to go in there three times I think.  Two of the times, I ended up bringing her to bed with us.  I would just lay by her and keep a wet wash cloth over her forehead.  Katelyn and I had a discussion because I thought I was being nice by cooling off her hands and feet with the rag too. Katelyn said that this is not a good idea because you are supposed to try to warm the feet to draw the fever from the head.  It was a battle of the laws of thermodynamics vs. the laws of "I saw this on a little women movie one time".  As always, science proved to be wrong... Anyway, none of us got very much sleep so we were all tired this morning.  Katelyn had women's bible study, so she took Emily while I took Haley to the doctor.  The weird thing about Haley's sickness is that she still had an appetite.  She ate two pancakes this morning.  However, she was still wheezy and overall fussy.  The doctor did a flu test and an RSV test.  Both came back negative but she prescribed an antibiotic and sent us to get chest X-rays done just in case it was pneumonia.  The radiologist loved Haley.  Haley said her usual things: "all done", "luz" (spanish for light), and "thank you".  After the X-rays we went home for lunch.  Haley ate hardly anything.  I think just part of a valentines day hostess cake. Then she went down for a nap.  Emily was still awake for a little while so Katelyn fed her and read a book.  I lay on the bed next to them for a few minutes till Jon texted and we went to Starbucks.  Katelyn said Emily slept a while, but when I got home, both babies were awake.  We got our shoes and jackets on and headed out to Lifeway.  Katelyn is leading girls youth group for two girls at our church along with Amanda.  She thought it would be cool to study Tim Keller's: Freedom of Self Forgetfulness.  Lifeway didn't have it so we tried Mardel.  They didn't have it either. Lifeway is just a little past the gym and when we drove by Haley said: "play with toys!", soon followed by "bye bye toys."  The Mardel store is in the same strip mall as Hobby Lobby, which Haley for some reason LOVES.  She yelled out: "HOBBY LOBBY!" along with "CHRISTMAS TREEEEEE!"  I guess we must have been there once when there were Christmas trees in there and she remembers that.  Then we went home for a quick dinner.  Katelyn had to go pick Ella up from her house so I took Haley and Emily for a night out on the town.  I figured we would go to the pet store till that got boring and then maybe go to the mall so Haley could play on the 25 cent rides.  I asked Haley if she wanted to go see "animales" and she got pretty excited.  She started naming them off: peces (fish), tuga (should be tortuga for turtle), perro (dog), gato (cat), parrot (english for perico)... I was quite impressed that she associated all those together and seemed to really know what we were about to do.  We got ready and left.  I had Emily in the babybjorn and Haley just walked around.  Her favorites are the fish.  She kept saying peces so we went over there first.  She really likes the clownfish and called out "Nemooo" as she looked for them.  She also looked for the bus that lets an air bubble up while calling out "buuuubbles".  Then she wanted to see some hamsters whom she just kept saying were crazy.  When I really consider a furry little animal running on a wheel, I can see how crazy comes to mind.  She liked that they had a bowl with what looked like really dark cheerios in it and commanded them to eat several times.  We both found it surprising that they eat apples too!  Then she said "gato" and headed off to the back of the store where she has been on only one occasion for like 2 minutes and immediately found the cats.  She doesn't much like them.  She literally looks at them for a second and says "all done". Then we went and looked at puppies for a few minutes until she remembered the chinchilla in the ball from last time and started looking for it.  I'm still not sure she knew there was an animal in there.  It was in it's cage this time though, so I took her over to it and said ball and pointed to it.  It kind of does look like a ball actually.  The lady said they are trying to get it to lose weight.  I touched it and asked Haley if she wanted to touch it.  Last time she did without hesitation.  I don't think that will happen again.  It was eating and as she stuck her pointer finger in to touch it, it bit her.  I think just a nibble, maybe not hard even because I looked and there was not even a mark on it.  Never the less she said "ouchie" and "hurts".  She didn't cry though, or even get sad.  She just stopped giving it the time of day so we moved on to some bearded dragons, back to the fish, to the turtles, bunnies, fish, turtles, fish.  She said the puppies were crazy and playing and wooooooooow.  She said the tuga's were sleeping.  She pointed out their eyes, and they actually were!  She also saw a fish that was pooping.  I actually pointed it out.  But she did say "poopie pez" a lot after that.  Her biggest discovery will be included later in the Haleyism.  Emily didn't make a sound but she did like seeing the animals I think, especially the puppies.  Then we packed up and headed to Walmart.  We were running out of baby ibuprofen so we picked some of that up.  I told Haley she could have either a donut or ice cream.  She picked ice cream so we headed to the checkout line.  I had Emily in the bjorn once again and the cashier really liked her.  Although when there is a baby smiling at you, it's hard not to like it back.  She asked how old Emily was.  I had maybe a 15 second conversation with her and then looked down to see the blank floor where Haley had been standing.  I looked around and behind me and called out to her but she didn't answer.  The lady who was checking out in front of me had two kids and I must have looked panicked because our eyes met for probably half a second and yet somehow they said to me "Your panic is my panic, I know exactly how you feel and I will help you find that little girl and if I see someone taking her I will kill them or die trying".  It's crazy how two parents connect so automatically.  I took off to the left and she went to the right.  I found Haley in a matter of about five seconds because she was in the next isle, looking at candy duh.  I was so happy.  I called out to the other lady who was only about 10 steps from her original spot and we were all relieved.  Needless to say I held Haley the rest of the time.  The cashier said I should get one of those leashes for babies.  I'm thinking more like a ball and chain the whole family can strap into, like a chain gang :)
After the scare we went to chic fil a to get ice cream and so that Haley could play on the playground to kill some time.  I was so happy Haley hadn't asked to use the potty at Wet Pets n Critters or at Walmart, but you can't be too careful so I took her at chic fil a.  That is interesting.  Holding a kid over a potty while another is strapped to your chest.  I kept telling Haley not to touch anything.  She ate some ice cream (which I am sure is just awesome for bronchitis) and then played on the toys.  She was pretty daring.  She climbed up the slide and played all around in there with a bunch of other kids.  Usually she just hangs around the bottom of the slide.  I tried giving Emily just a taste of the ice cream.  It must have had an effect because the next time I looked at her face there was drool all over her cheeks and hands.  After that we went home and Haley watched the Bible while she had a nebulizer treatment.  Emily ate some of mommy's milk.  Then I put the girls to bed while Katelyn took Ella home and I typed up the very words you are reading.

Haleyism: Haley's favorite part of the pet store is the 25 cent candy machines at the front of the store.  She tried to turn the knob on each one and checked for candy.  No harm there.  When she got to the skittles, there were some in there!  I let her eat them, then I tried turning it. Although it didn't turn far, more came down!  She ate some more and gave some to her father who was with her, and he ate...  We stopped then and I didn't let her turn it more cuz I felt bad, but now as I type this, I am realizing that it was sin!  Psalty the singing songbook comes to mind, and all I can think of is when he sings: "This is like a miracle, all this candy's freeeeeee!"  Crap! Some great dad I am.  I'm gonna stop telling stories.

Emilyism:  She ate a bunch of carrots for the first time today.  She wasn't sure about them at first, but I think in the end she liked them ok.  I tasted them and somehow they are so much worse pureed than whole.

Haley doesn't care for cats, even ones with babies.

She really liked the turtles.  She kept saying "sleeping" and "tugas night night" when she realized they were asleep. She looked at me and pointed to her eye and said: "eyes" to show me how she knew.

This is a rare lizard only native to Colorado.  It basically just chills all the time except when it likes to snowboard.  Its growing its hair out and doesn't bathe.  Its what you would call a "gateway" lizard...gets you hooked on all kinds of reptiles.

Seriously, is the lizzard a drug addict, do they throw in some weed when you buy one, or is this just the most brazen and ingenious way of growing marijuana anyone has ever come up with?  I can just see the teenagers lining up in front of the terrarium now: "Uh yeah, I would DEFINITELY be interested in purchasing that lizard."

Haley looking at those crazy hamsters.

Emily to the doctor "No she doesn't ride me! I swear, I fell and my face hit a doorknob!"

Haley is sick and small

Tuesday morning Haley had her 2 year well-check at 10:15.  You would think that we would have plenty of time to get out the door but both girls slept in until close to nine and we really had to be out the door by 9:45 because it takes a while to get in the car and find parking and they want you to get there fifteen minutes early to fill out paperwork.  We made it in time but David dropped Haley and I off at the door and parked with Emily.  Haley did fairly well during her examination, she was not happy when Dr. Bangell was looking at her ears and mouth but that part went quickly.  Haley has been coughing and wheezing when she breathes the last two days so we asked Dr. Bagnell to take a close look at her lungs.  Dr. Bagnell ended up having the nurses bring in a nebulizer for Haley to try out.  I guess it is commonly used with kids who have bad allergies and asthma and Dr. Bangell thinks that Haley may be one of those kids.  Anyways, I thought that Haley would definitely not allow them to put a weird thing over her mouth after her protests with the ear and mouth examinations but she did not seem to mind at all.  She had to have the nebulizer on her for at least five minutes and she kept it on the whole time without complaining.  Dr. Bagnell prescribed a cream for Haley's eczema and a nebulizer for us to get for her asthma/allergies.  I'm a bit skeptical of the nebulizer, I'll keep you updated on if the thing actually makes a difference.  Anyways, here are Haley's stats from the appointment:

Height:  32 inches (9.61%)
Weight: 20lbs (.15% - that's right, not even a quarter of a percent.  This was actually up from her 18 month appointment, apparently then she was only .11%)
Blood Pressure: 92/53 (I'm not sure what is normal for a 2 year old)

As you can see, Haley remains a peanut.  After the doctor's appointment we went to the pharmacy which is in the same building and picked up her stuff.  Dr. Bagnell also took a look at her knock-knees and said it doesn't seem too bad, we're going to revisit it when she's three.  When we got home we ate lunch and then put the girls down for naps after playing for a little bit.  When they woke up we went to Wal-mart to pick up a salad for dinner and Hobby Lobby to get something framed.

Tonight David and I had small group at the Maglott's house and we were bringing a salad.  We had asked Ella Freeman from church, to baby-sit.  Haley and I went to pick up Ella around 5:45, Haley was not too excited about having a baby-sitter but Ella said she did not cry at all after we left.  David and I got about two minutes down the road with Emily before we realized we were missing her pacifier.  We went back home to get it.  I ran to the door and just as I was getting there, Ella opened it and handed me the paci, she was just going to text me to tell me we had forgotten it, what service!

Emily did pretty well during small group.  She laid on the floor during dinner and sat on my lap for most of the study.  She never really got fussy so I never put her to sleep but she fell right to sleep on the way home.  When we got back Ella had quite the report for us.  Haley had seemed sleepy during most of the evening and hadn't eaten any dinner.  Dinner was leftover pizza from her Birthday so that was very surprising.  Ella said that Haley felt super warm so she took her temperature and she had a fever of 101.7.  After dinner Haley wanted to watch her Bible DVD so Ella turned it on for her but apparently Haley kept nodding off to sleep - at 7pm!  Ella finally just put her in her pajamas and put her to bed at 7:15.  When we got back she had been sleeping ever since.  I took Ella home, on the drive home I found out that she is also CPR certified - this girl is definitely a keeper!  When I got back David was holding Emily and Haley who had woken up while I was gone.  Haley still had a fever but she seemed like her normal self besides that.  We let her play for a little bit and then we gave her a snack and put her back to bed.

Tuesday night was not a great night.  Emily woke up three times to eat and Haley woke up a couple times as well.  I never woke up when Haley cried, just David, and he brought her back to our bed.  David had to get up for his flight at 4:45 this morning so once he left we slept pretty comfortably, Haley on his side of the bed. She slept straight through until close to 10 am actually!  After our bad night, I decided that we should probably skip Bible study fellowship.  I had e-mailed Dr. Bangell and told her about Haley's symptoms and asked if she sounded contagious and Dr. Bagnell said if her fever was above 101 than she was probably contagious.  This morning her fever was at 101.9 so I figured I had made the right decision.

The rest of our day was super boring.  I made pancakes for breakfast and Haley ate two of them so that was good.  After breakfast I put Emily in the bumbo and took a shower with both girls sitting in the bottom of the tub.  It got pretty crowded in there but we all came out clean.  Emily did not mind the water at all, she is going to love the pool this summer.  Once the girls were clean I got them dressed and then put Emily down for a nap.  She ended up sleeping over two hours and while she slept I let Haley watch What's in the Bible while I straightened the house and then gave her a 'treatment' on the nebulizer.  Haley did not eat much for lunch and eventually I just put her down for a nap since she seemed to be drifting off during her movie anyways.  She woke up a couple times during her nap, one time for applesauce of which she ate a bunch so that was good I thought.

Emily woke up shortly before I put Haley down for her nap so their naps did not really overlap too much.  I talked to Aunt Kelly on the phone for a while in the afternoon before putting Emily down in the swing for a second nap.  I had a little bit of time to do my Bible study then before Haley woke up.  I held her for a while until David got home.  As soon as David walked in the door, Haley was a different person.  She got all chatty and excited and I started to think she was faking the whole sick thing!  I wonder if she just needed a change of scene or change of person or something.  All the sudden she was jumping on the bed and walking around with Daddy's shoes on and asking to eat cheese!  I made some Mexican rice for the church Wednesday potluck while David and I decided what to do.  She had taken Ibuprofen about three hours prior so we didn't think the medicine had just suddenly kicked in and her fever was down to a mere 99 degrees.  We decided to go ahead and go to church and then just leave if she seemed to get bad.

She did great during the potluck portion and ate some pizza for dinner so we decided to stay for the second hour of study time.  Emily had a poopy diaper during the study time and after I changed that she fell asleep in my arms.  The baby-sitters said Haley did fairly well but fussed on and off.  They had braided her hair so I thought that was nice, her first braid really.  I've never braided her hair.  When we picked her up David took her to the potty and noticed she seemed warm again.  We left as soon as we could and got home.  Her temperature was back up (whoops) but she wasn't terribly clingy.  We put her on the nebulizer, gave her some ibuprofen and put her and Emily to bed.  This afternoon I made an appointment for 9:15 tomorrow morning.  I was going to cancel it after she seemed to perk up so much this afternoon but I think we may go after all.  I have been e-mailing back and forth with Dr. Bagnell today (via our patient portal, it is super convenient) and she said she might want to take an x-ray of her lungs, oh my.

Haleyism:
Haley likes the nebulizer, she holds the thing up to her nose and mouth like a pro.  I kind of think she may think it is like my breast pump, it looks just like it and she was always super fascinated with that thing!

Emilyism:
Emily finally rolled over!  She rolled over from her back to her tummy, she has yet to roll over from her tummy to her back which is supposed to be easier apparently!  It takes her about five minutes just to roll over once.  We would take a video but it seriously just takes her forever.

On Tuesday Haley insisted on taking her baby along to Wal-mart

Play Day

This morning Katelyn went early to help some ladies from church clean someone's house.  The people from our church with the Trisominy 18 baby had to run down to Houston to take Claire back.  They have just been back and forth so much.  Anyway, some ladies from church volunteered to clean their house while they were gone so Mrs. Mason picked Katelyn up around 8:45.  Usually, Katelyn watches Lucy on Monday mornings.  Today it was my turn.  Amanda doesn't usually drop her off till 9:30, so when I had Emily still sleeping, and Haley dozing off in our bed around 9, I thought I was safe to take a shower.  Sure enough, as I was about to hop in there was a knock at the door.  I had to run and put clothes on and then get it and pretend that everyone wasn't still planning on doing their own thing for another 30 minutes.  Haley helped by getting up and coming out to the dining room.  Lucy has developed a weird habit of eating her lunch as soon as she gets here.  She always gets a lunchable and her and Haley eat the cheese for breakfast and save the rest for lunch I guess.  I don't know if there is that much thought put into it from them but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.  Today Lucy also ate some pieces of ham...  Amanda left and I had the two kids for a while before Emily woke up.  We hadn't really totally cleaned up after the party so all the toys were still out.  They pretty much entertained themselves and I went around the house emptying the trash and taking it out to the street.  It took me a couple trips till I finally got it all out.  Every time I came back though, they were still alive.  Eventually they wanted to open up the little people house from mimi so I had to do that for them.  Within two seconds they were fighting.  They fought over a couple things.  Then Emily woke up and we just played around with her for a while.  She got fussy pretty quick though so I fed her some applesauce.  After a while, I put her down for a nap in the swing and Katelyn came home.  I can't imagine her disgust at having to come home from just cleaning someone else's house and have to start on our own house!  She had a pretty good attitude about it though.  We ate lunch quick and fed the girls.  There was the leftover lunchable along with some leftover pizza from the party.  Once the girls finished eating they went back to playing.  They love that tent we got Haley for her birthday.  They just stand in there and stomp their feet.  Then I left to go back to the Watson's house.  They had left some towels and sheets in the dryer and washer so I went to go switch them and wait for the next load to come out.  I read while I was there.  Katelyn says the girls basically just went down for a nap and they were still sleeping when I got home.  Evelyn was at our house though.  A lot of times Amanda will drop her off after school so she can get a few last minute things done.  Emily woke up first and Katelyn wasn't done with her devo's so I got her.  Evelyn wanted to sit next to me on the recliner and hold Emily so we did that for a while.  Then Lucy woke up. She cried very softly so we hardly heard her.  That was kinda cool.  Then she came out and they both took turns holding Emily until Haley woke up.  Then they all played until they got sick of it.  We then went in the guest room and sang some songs until Amanda came back to pick them up.  Then Haley just played for a while and Emily was in her exersaucer.  Then we skyped the Brusts while dinner was in the oven cooking.  We ate dinner quick, Haley had another slice of pizza, and played for a little while.  Katelyn had Bible Study tonight so Haley, Emily and I went to the gym.  I did part of a yoga class.  Haley really does like the gym now.  Even when we just drive by it she says TOYS! or JUGETES!  The ladies said that Haley tried to go to the potty by herself and they just heard screaming in the bathroom.  By the time they got there she had already peed because she couldn't get her panties down by herself.  After we got home, I fed Emily some sweet potatoes while Haley played with part of the baby pack n play we got her (this just means that she beats two poles together to make noise).  At one point she thought it would be cool to use them as drumsticks on the table, my knee, and Emily's hand.  In the greatest miracle since that one dude running and leaping and praising God, Emily did not cry.  Then Emily sat in the bumbo while Haley ate some goldfish and a juicebox  before bed.  The next hour and a half were pretty frustrating for me and required a lot of prayer as I attempted to put two crying babies to sleep.  By the time Katelyn got home though, it was lights out.

Haleyism: Haley puts her babies to sleep with blankets over their heads.  At first I thought this was a simple overlooking on her part, but now I believe it is intentionally modeled after the way Katelyn puts Emily to sleep in the swing to "block out the light".

Emilyism: Emily got two servings of peaches today because I thought I was giving her squash one time till I licked a piece of my finger and realized why she liked it so much.

Babies always turn their noses up so they can look down on you.

Haley trying to help entertain Emily while I get sweet potatoes ready.

Evelyn holding Emily and me holding her head.

This is after the fight when I threatened them if they wouldn't play nice.

Haley seems to think it is possible to sit in the wagon and pull it at the same time.

"Haley's turn!" - she usually yells this as Emily is getting out of her car seat.

That is not an approved child restraint system

Haley soaking up Vol. 2 of What's in the Bible - Exodus,  very informative especially on the canonization of scripture.
