Today David did not have to work so we had the entire day with him. It started by sleeping in. Emily was up around 8:30 so I got up around then but Haley slept in until 10! I'm not sure why but it really worked out because we had to skip her nap today so she would go to bed early tonight for small group. After breakfast we went to the gym and David and I ran together for a while outside. When we went to pick up Haley she was playing with dolls. The workers said that she played with an older girl named Olivia the whole time and did whatever she did.
When we got home we ate lunch and then packed up to go to the splash pad. We decided that if Haley was going to miss her nap, she was going to have fun doing it. The high was 84 today so it was plenty warm for it. We packed some snacks to hold Haley off in case she got hungry and then spent over three hours at the splash pad! It was not super full considering it was such a nice day so that worked out. For some reason we are always the only people that bring along buckets and beach toys so we always have a bunch of random kids coming over and asking to use buckets. I don't really mind unless Haley is using them. Today a gang of boys probably around 4 and 5 came over and asked to use one of the buckets. The ring leader of the group, who was also the shortest, came over and said, 'ma'am, we caught this (insert name of something they caught, I didn't catch it) and we are trying to keep it from getting away and we need something that we can put over it so that it can't get out. Do you think we could use one of your buckets?' He did not look nearly old enough to talk that well and he was so polite and so super cute so I told him, "you can use this one but make sure you bring it back here when you are finished." As I was saying that last part one of the other boys piped up, 'that's what I said!' Then they grabbed the bucket and ran off. It made me think that I would like to have a boy at some point. I was growing kind of contrary to them since I have girls.
There was a Mexican family sitting near us who had their three year old son along. The mom commented on how small and petite Haley was and asked if she was a premie. This led to a whole conversation on the sizes and birthdates of our babies and before I knew it she was asking to hold Emily and then she was holding Emily and rocking her around in every direction trying to get her to go to sleep (I mentioned that she was probably tired). Anyways, afterwards when I thought about it I realized that it was rather trusting to just hand Emily off but the lady was really nice (that's probably what every mom says before their infant is kidnapped). I decided that I just must have felt more comfortable because David was along. Besides, I was a lot taller and I could have totally taken her down if it came down to it. Plus David has a pocket knife that Mimi got him for Christmas a couple years ago and he carries it everywhere so that thing was probably with us. Anyways, nothing happened so I guess I can stop defending myself.
After the splash pad we went home and made dinner and picked up until it was time for small group. We had about an hour and a half but we really did need all that time to clean up. I had laundry half-folded in the den that needed to be finished and put away and the lunch dishes were still mostly out and everything was pretty messy. The girls got hungry so David fed them early. He gave them applesauce out of the same bowl and he said they must've eaten four or five apples in sauce between the two of them. Our small group arrived around six and we ate together and then I put the girls to bed before we started the study part. They were so tired they went right down.
Haleyism:
Haley does very well on little or no sleep. She hardly seemed to notice that she hadn't napped. However, if she goes hungry for a couple of seconds she turns into a bear.
Emilyism:
Emily is a much better sleeper than Haley was at her age, so long as it is in her crib. Haley could fall asleep in my arms for a long time and I think she probably still could but Emily rarely does anymore. It makes me a little sad.
