Happy late Birthday Grandma! Love, Haley and Emy

In all of the excitement of Cinco de Mayo, we forgot that the 5th of May is also Grandma DeWalt's Birthday!  We missed being with Grandma on her Birthday but we hope to see them sometime soon!  Grandma and Grandpa DeWalt were just here with us in Texas this past fall and we got to see them at Christmas.  It has been too long though, time for a visit I think!  Anyways, here is our tribute to Grandma:

Today was Monday and so, like every Monday, it was cleaning and laundry day.  However, unlike most Mondays, Amanda kept Lucy home with her so it was just me and the girls.  Part of me wanted to do something completely different because we could and it would be better than cleaning but the other part of me wanted to see if I would be more efficient cleaning with just two children instead of three.  David left for an all day trip at nine and was not able to see Haley before he left because she was still sleeping.  Emily woke up at 8:15 so he got to see plenty of her.

First I took a shower and then left Emy in the tub to play while I got ready for the day.  Haley woke up a couple minutes later so I threw her in the tub with Emy.  They were in there for a while when Emy booed in the tub.  She is so sneaky about her boo, I always caught Haley when she was this age and put her on the potty.  Emy has only gone once on the potty.  I had to clean out the tub and start over, I hadn't washed them yet so that worked out.  After baths I fed Haley some pancakes, Emily had already eaten breakfast and was getting fussy so I put her down for a nap.  Haley ate four and a half pancakes, pretty impressive I think.  Then I decided to take advantage of Emy sleeping and started my cleaning.

I was definitely able to clean faster because I only had to take one 2 year old to the potty and never had to break up any fights, but Haley did not have near as much fun as she usually has with Lucy.  She basically just stood around and watched me clean.  At one point I accidentally elbowed her in the forehead while I was cleaning the toilet...because her head was literally at my elbow.  I hope she's watching closely so she can help out next time!  After the bathrooms I started dusting and that was a lot easier for Haley because I started in the den and she played with toys and just brought them along to the different rooms.  Emily woke up about that time from a measly hour nap.  I brought out some toys for her and then Haley really did much better.  She pretended to read books next to Emily.  That went well until Emily noticed what Haley was doing and started grabbing her book.  She ended up pulling a page out of her Curious George 8-story volume.  Haley was pretty horrified.  I told her daddy would fix it when he got home...I hope he knows how to fix that kind of thing because she pulled the page completely out of the binding, oops.

I was a little better at staying on top of the laundry too.  My loads were washed and dried sooner than usual but I will probably not fold until tomorrow (I usually push that off a day or so :)  The only hiccup with laundry came when Haley was watching me change loads and she started playing in the trashcan where I put all of the lint, unbeknownst to me.  Lint is pretty easy to clean up but all the little pieces of David's hair that were sitting on top of the lint from his last hair cut are not quite so easy to clean up.  At that point I was ready to drive to the Caldwells and pay Lucy to 'baby-sit' Haley for the rest of the afternoon.

Well, things actually went up from there.  I made sandwiches for lunch and then I put the girls down for naps.  An hour later I was just finished mopping the floors when I heard Haley singing 'the farmer and the dell' over the monitor.  I'm convinced if she had slept her normal 2+ hour nap that I would have finished everything but instead we played.  I read my Bible and she 'read' Curious George next to me on the couch.  Then I gave her a snack and we went outside until Emy woke up.  At 3:30 we went to the gym so I could run, I don't usually get to do that on Mondays so that was nice.  Haley did not want to go to her class at first, she wanted to play on the exercise equipment outside (she thinks they're toys).  I told her I would take her out there afterwards and I did.  It worked out because there are a pair of geese that live on the pond and they have five goslings right now.  Haley got to watch the gosling swim across the pond with their parents and come out of the water right were we were watching!  I thought that was nice of God to work it out that way for her.  Haley was pretty excited about the whole thing, she kept pointing and yelling 'look!' as if I wasn't already looking.  Emily got super excited when she saw the geese, she kept laughing really loudly as if they were doing some kind of clown routine or something.

After the gym we came home and watered the grass.  Then I fed the girls macaroni and cheese and applesauce for dinner (dinner of champions).  I was going to a women's event at First Baptist Church that Libby Black had told me about.  She was the mom from the family we had for dinner last night.  She is on the women's ministry at First Baptist so she helped coordinate the event.  It went from 6 - 8 and it included dinner for me and childcare for the girls.  It was supposed to cost ten dollars but when I got there Libby said there were a bunch of extra tickets and I didn't have to pay.  I did try to pay anyways but she seemed to think I was being ridiculous so I stopped insisting.  Anyways, the speaker was a lady from Bryan, Texas who is a potter.  She makes pottery and gives her testimony while she speaks.  Her name is Rachel Norris and she grew up as a missionary kid in Hong Kong and ended up falling away from the Lord as a rebellious teenager and getting pulled back sometime in her mid-twenties.  It was really neat to see her relate scripture to her pottery (especially the verses about God being the potter).  She had a lot of great things to say about God changing us and refining us for His purpose.  I was really glad I went.

There were not tons of kids in childcare and they were all in the same class so Haley and Emily got to be together.  The workers said they did well, especially Haley.  They said she played a lot.  New toys will do that to you.  Emily fell asleep on the way home and I changed her into her pajamas and put her into her crib right away.  I fed Haley a snack and then put her to bed too, she went right down.

Haleyism:
Today Haley said, "Emy's just so nice."  I thought that was pretty funny, how can she even tell that?

Emilyism:
I think a bottom tooth may be popping through soon for Emy!
